Dia De Los Muertos

How does CL SMITH PTA support this event?

  • The Tradition

Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a vibrant and heartfelt Mexican tradition that pays homage to the memory of loved ones who have passed away. It offers a unique opportunity for families and communities to join together in remembering those who are no longer with us. This celebration serves as a beautiful way to keep the spirits of our loved ones alive in our hearts.

  • In-School Ofrenda

As an integral part of this meaningful tradition, we are honored to be able to continue the tradition of creating an Ofrenda, right here at our school. This Ofrenda will provide a special space where our students can remember and honor their loved ones who have passed away.

  • The Frames

Each student will receive a paper frame within the bag they receive on Pumpkin Patch Day. We encourage them to take these frames home and decorate them. They can use the supplies we provide or get creative with items from their own homes. In past years, students have drawn pictures of their loved ones to place in the center of these frames or have included treasured photographs.

  • Bringing Memories to School

On Wednesday, November 1st, Dia de los Muertos, our students will bring these beautifully decorated frames to school. These frames offer a touching way for them to honor and remember their loved ones. Once brought to school, they will be thoughtfully displayed to create a warm and loving tribute within our In-school Ofrenda. The Ofrenda will be located in our library which offers a respectful and special space to honor this somber yet important event.
